Early Advent believers emphasized the prophetic message, sanctuary, seventh-day Sabbath, law of God, and Three Angels' Messages through preaching, testimony, and pioneer charts.
Conferences and a General Conference structure developed as the movement expanded. The distinction between spiritual movement and later legal arrangements remains an important historical question.

Corporate Structure — What This Church Really Is
Oldham Seventh-Day Adventist Church is not an independent congregation. It is a corporate franchise operating within the General Conference Corporation of Seventh-day Adventists (EIN 52-0643036), under IRS Group Exemption Number GEN 1071.
The IRS classifies the parent corporation under NTEE code X21 (Protestant) — yet GC President Neal C. Wilson declared in the Adventist Review (March 5, 1981): "I want to say this carefully — there is something very Catholic about the Seventh-day Adventist Church." The IRS also lists the parent organization's primary business activity as underwriting municipal insurance — not gospel ministry.
Every pastor at this church is a Conference employee, not a congregationally-chosen shepherd. Every tithe dollar flows upward to the corporate pyramid. The 501(c)(3) speech restrictions of federal law — prohibiting "political" speech on pain of losing the entire GEN 1071 umbrella — apply to every pulpit in this building.

What the Pioneer Church Was
The Advent movement of 1844–1860 was built by men and women who refused to organize into a hierarchy. It was a movement of the Spirit — not a corporation. The pioneers — William Miller, Joseph Bates, James White, Ellen G. White, Uriah Smith, John Andrews — preached the Three Angels' Messages and warned against exactly the structure that now bears the name "Adventist."
Ellen G. White wrote in 1 Selected Messages 204: "The church may appear as about to fall, but it does not fall. It remains, while the sinners in Zion will be sifted out — the chaff separated from the precious wheat." The corporate franchise now bearing the "Adventist" trademark is not the remnant. It is the new organization of 1904 — the one the pioneers warned about.
The three angels still fly (Revelation 14:6–12). The call to come out of Babylon still stands (Revelation 18:4). The corporate franchise does not change the message — it buries it.
