He saysof them, "These were more noble than thosein Thessalonica, in that they receivedthe word with allreadinessof mind,and searchedtheScripturesdaily,whether those things were so. Thereforemany of them believed; also of honorable women which were Greeks , and of men ,not a few ." In the presentationof the truth, those who honestlydesiretobe rightwillbe awakened toa diligentsearching of the Scriptures. This will produceresultssimilartothosethatattendedthe laborsof the apostlesin Berea. But those who preachthetruthinthesedays meet many who are the oppositeof the Bereans. They cannot controvertthe doctrinepresentedto them, yet theymanifestthe utmost reluctanceto investigate theevidenceofferedin itsfavor, and assume that even if it is the truth it is a matter of little consequencewhether or not they acceptit as such. They thinkthattheiroldfaithand customs aregood enough forthem. But theLord, who sent-out his ambassadors with a message to theworld,willholdthepeopleresponsibleforthe manner in which they treatthe words of his servants. God willjudge allaccordingto the lightwhich has been presentedtothem,whether itis plainto them or not. It istheirduty to investigateasdid the Bereans.
