The apostles,however,feltthattheyhad no time todwellupon theirown afflictions. They were burdenedwith themessageof Christ,and deeply in earnest in his work . Paulmade thepropheciesintheOld Testament relatingto the Messiah, and the agreementof thoseprophecieswith the lifeand teachingsof Christ,clearintheminds of allamong hishearers who would acceptevidenceupon the subject. Christin hisministryhad opened the minds of his disciplesto the Old-Testament scriptures; "beginningat Moses and allthe prophets, he expoundeduntothem in allthescripturesthe thingsconcerninghimself." Peter,in preaching Christ,producedhisevidencefromtheOld-Testament scriptures,beginningwith Moses and the prophets. Stephenpursuedthesame course,and Paul followedthese examples, giving inspired proof in regard to the mission,suffering,death, resurrection,and ascensionof Christ. He clearly proved his identitywith the Messiah, through the testimonyof Moses and the prophets; and showed that it was the voice of Christ which spokethroughthe prophetsand patriarchsfrom the days of Adam to that time. He showedhow impossibleit was forthem to explainthe passover without Christas revealed in the Old Testament ; and how the brazen serpentliftedup inthewildernesssymbolizedJesusChrist,who was liftedup upon the cross. He taught them thatalltheirreligiousservicesand ceremonieswould have been valuelessif they should now rejectthe Saviour, who was re
