OPPOSITION AT THESSALONICA . 81 was noised about through all that region, and brought the apostlesand theirministrybefore thenoticeof a largenumber who would not otherwise have been reached . Paul'slaborsat Philippiresultedin the establishmentof a church there, whose numbers steadilyincreased. His example of zeal and devotion,above all,his willingnessto sufferfor Christ'ssake,exerteda deepand lastinginfluence upon the convertsto the faith. They highly prizedthe precioustruthsforwhich the apostle had sacrificedsomuch ,and theygavethemselves, with whole-hearted devotion, to the cause of their Redeemer . Thischurchdidnotescapepersecution. Says Paul, in hisEpistleto the Philippians: "Unto you itisgivenin the behalfof Christ,notonly tobelieveon him,but alsotosufferforhissake; having the same conflictwhich ye saw in me . Yet such was their steadfastness in the faith thathe declares: "I thank my God upon every remembranceof you,always in everyprayerof mine foryou allmaking requestwithjoy,for your fellowshipin the gospelfrom thefirstday until now ."
