The apostleswere not discouragedby thisexpulsion; they remembered the words of their Master: "Blessedare ye when men shallrevile you,and persecuteyou,and shallsayallmanner of evilagainstyou falsely, for my sake. Rejoice,and be exceedingglad; forgreatisyour reward in Heaven ; for so persecutedthey the prophetswhich were beforeyou." CHAPTER V. PREACHING AMONG THE HEATHEN . THE apostlesnextvisitedIconium. Thisplace was a greatresortforpleasure-seekers,and personswho had no particularobjectin life. The populationwas composed of Romans , Greeks, and Jews. The apostleshere,asatAntioch,first commenced theirlaborsin the synagoguesfor theirown people, the Jews. They met with marked success; numbers of both Jews and Greeks acceptedthegospelof Christ. But here, asinformerplaceswheretheapostleshad labored, the unbelieving Jews commenced an unreasonableoppositionto thosewho acceptedthe true faith,and,asfaraslayintheirpower,influenced the Gentilesagainstthem. The apostles,however,were not easilyturned from theirwork ,formany were dailyembracing thedoctrineof Christ. Theywenton faithfully in thefaceof opposition, envy, and prejudice.
