They dwelt untiringlyupon his teachings, his miraclesof healingthe sick,castingout devils,and raising thedead tolife. With quiveringlipsand tearful eyestheyspokeof hisagony in the garden,his betrayal, trial, and execution, the forbearance and humility with which he endured the contumely and tortureimposed upon him by his enemies, and the Godlikepitywithwhich he prayed for thosewho persecutedhim. His resurrectionand ascension,and hiswork in Heaven as a Mediatorforfallenman ,were joyfultopics with them. The heathenmight wellcallthem Christians, sincethey preachedof Christ, and addressedtheirprayerstoGod throughhim.In the populouscityof Antioch, Paul found an excellentfieldof labor,wherehisgreatlearning,wisdom,and zeal,combined,exerteda powerful influence over the inhabitants and frequentersof thatcityof culture. Meanwhile thework of the apostleswas centeredat Jerusalem, where Jews of alltongues and countriescame toworshipatthetempleduringthestatedfestivals. At suchtimestheapostlespreachedChristwith unflinchingcourage, though they knew that in so doing theirlives were in constantjeopardy.
