Such are deservingof sympathy; forifthey seek to live a religiouslife, theirsituationis oftenone of great trial. A bad example is constantlybeforethem, an exampleofSabbathbreakingand of neglectof religion. Few religiousprivilegesare granted them ; and should theymanifestan interestinreligion,theymight losethefavorof theiremployer,and bringupon themselvestheridiculeof theircompanions. He who is thus situated has more than a common battleto fight,if he standsforthas a witnessfor Christ, a candidate for Heaven . But there can be nothing in hissurroundings to excuse him for neglectingthe claims of God . Whatever the difficultiesin his path, they willbe powerless to hinder him ifhe isdetermined to seek firstthe kingdom ofGod and hisrighteousness.The Christianshouldnot arraybeforehisimaginationallthe trialswhich may occurbefore the end of the race. He has but to begin to serveGod, and each day liveand laborforthe gloryof God thatday,and obstacleswhich appearedinsurmountablewillgraduallygrow less and less; or,should he encounter allthat he has feared, the grace of Christwill be imparted tohim accordingto hisneed. Strengthincreases with the difficultiesmet and overcome . Daniel,the Hebrew captive,theprimeminister of a royal realm, encounteredgreat obstacles to a lifeof fidelityto God . But at the very beginningofhiscareer,he determinedthatwhatevermight oppose, he would make thelaw of God his rule of action. As he maintained his
