Jerusalem, hisrejectionby hisown people, the treacheryof Judas,the paltrysum paid forhis betrayal,hisdeathas a malefactor,eventhebitter,stupefyingdraughtsofferedhim inhisdying agony,the lotscastupon hisgarments,hisvictoryoverdeath and the graveby theresurrectionon the thirdday,hisfinalexaltationon the righthand of God , allthesewere in directfulfillment of the words of the prophets. But themore conclusivethe arguments presented, the more determinedwere the Jews in theiropposition. Frenzied with malice,they reiteratedtheir assertionsthat Jesus of Nazareth was a deceiver. Further argument was useless. Paul closed with a solemn address, in which he appliedto them the words of Isaiah, beforequoted by Christhimself: " Well spaketheHoly Ghostby Esaiasthe prophetuntoour fathers,saying,Go unto thispeopleand say,Hearingye shallhear, and shallnotunderstand;and seeingyeshallsee, and not perceive; forthe heartof thispeopleis waxed gross,and theirearsaredullof hearing, and theireyeshave theyclosed; lesttheyshould seewith theireyes,and hear with theirears, and understand with their heart , and should be converted,and I should heal them ." Paul's words had not been in vain . Some fullyacceptedJesus as the world'sRedeemer, and ,despitethe oppositionof theirformer brethren,became earnestadvocatesof the truth. The peopleof God livingnearthecloseof time should learn a lessonfrom thisexperienceof Paul's. We should not be disheartened because those who have no love for truth refuse to be convincedby the clearestevidence. We need not flatterourselvesthat the formal and worldlovingchurchesof thisage aremore readytore-
