Go ye,therefore,and teach allnations, baptizingthem in the name of the Father,and of theSon,and of theHoly Ghost." He toldthem alsoof Christ'spromiseto send the Comforter, through whose power mighty signsand wonders would be wrought, and describedthe gloriousfulfillmentof that promise on the day of Pentecost. With deep interest, and grateful, wondering joy, thediscipleslistenedto the words of Paul. By faiththey graspedthe atoningsacrificeof Christ,and acknowledgedhim astheirRedeemer. They were thenbaptized"in thename ofJesus;" and as Paul laid his hands upon them, they receivedalsothebaptism of theHoly Spirit, by which they were enabled to speak the languages ofothernationsand toprophesy. Thus thesemen were qualifiedto act as missionariesin the importantfieldof Ephesus and itsvicinity, and alsofrom thiscentertospreadthegospelof Christ in Asia Minor . Itwas by cherishinga humble and teachable spiritthatthesebrethrengainedtheirprecious experience. Theirexample presentsa lessonof greatvalueto Christiansof every age. There aremany who make but littleprogressin the divinelife, becausetheyaretooself-sufficientto occupythepositionoflearners. They arecontent toremain in ignoranceof God's word; they do not wish tochangetheirfaithortheirpractice; and hencemake no efforttoobtaingreaterlight.
