Preciousconsolation!glorioushope! not onlyto the church ofThessalonica,but to alltrue Christianswho liveupon theearth. Paul had previouslyso fullycanvassedthe subjectof the signsof thetimes,showing what eventswould transpirepriortotherevelationof the Son of man in the clouds of heaven,that he did not considerit necessaryto enterlargely upon thoseparticularsagain on thisoccasion. He , however, pointedlyreferredto his former teachingson thatsubject:"But ofthetimesand the seasons, brethren, ye have no need thatI write unto you; foryourselvesknow perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shallsay, Peace and safety,thensuddendestructioncomethupon them ." The carelessand unbelievingclosetheireyes to the evidencewhich Christ has given to warn men of his coming. They seek to quietallapprehension,while,atthesame time,the signsof the end are rapidlyfulfilling,and theworld is hasteningtotheperiodof the revelationof the Son of man in the clouds of heaven . But those who receivethelightof truthas itshinesupon theirpathway,arenotindarknessthatthisgreateventshouldcome upon them unawares. Paul teaches that it would be sinful to be indifferent to the signswhich should precedethe second coming of Christ. Those who shouldbe guilty ofthisneglect,he callschildrenof thenightand of darkness. He encouragesthe vigilantand watchfulwith thesewords: "But ye, breth
