Thereforeletus notsleep,asdo others; but letus watch and be sober ." a The teachingsof the apostleupon thispoint are especiallyimportantto the church in our time. Above allothers,thosewho are livingso neartothe greatconsummation,shouldbe sober and watchful . The watchful Christian is working Christian, seeking zealouslyto purify hislife,and to do allinhispower forthecause of God . As hislovefor hisRedeemer increases, so also does his love for his fellow- creatures increase. He has severe trials,as did his Master; and ,likehim ,he isto some extent a man of sorrows,mourning because of the abominationsdone in the land. But thisgrief does not sour his temper, nor destroyhis peace of mind. His afflictions, ifwellborne,refineand purifyhis nature. He isthusbroughtintocloserfellowship with Christ; and inasmuch ashe,throughfierce opposition, is a partakerof the sufferingsof Christ,he willalsobe a partakerof hisconsolation,and finallya sharerofhisglory.Paul continued his admonition to the church : " We beseechyou,brethren,toknow them which laboramong you,and areoveryou intheLord, and admonish you; and to esteemthem very highlyin lovefortheirwork'ssake.
