He then showed that these predictions alsohad been fulfilledin the life, ministry, and death of Jesus,and hence that he was indeed the world's Redeemer . The most convincingproofwas giventhatthe gospelwas but the developmentof the Hebrew faith. Christwas to come forthe specialbenefitof the nation thatwas lookingfor his coming as the consummationand glory of the Jewish system. The apostlethen endeavored to bring home to theirconsciencesthe factthat repentance fortheirrejectionof Christcouldalonesavethe nationfrom impendingruin. He rebuked their ignoranceconcerningthe meaning of thoseScriptureswhichitwas theirchiefboastand glorythat theyfullyunderstood. He exposedtheirworldliness,theirloveof station, titles,and display, and their inordinate selfishness. But theJews of Corinthclosedtheireyestoall the evidenceso clearlypresentedby theapostle, and refusedto listento his appeals. The same spiritwhichhadledthemtorejectChrist,filledthem withwrathand furyagainstPaul. They would haveputan end to hislife,had not God guarded hisservant,thathe might do his work, and bear thegospelmessagetotheGentiles. " And when theyopposedthemselves,and blasphemed ,he shook hisraiment,and saidunto them, Your bloodbe uponyourown heads; I am clean; fromhenceforthI willgo untotheGentiles. And
