And now a strangechange came upon the fickle, excitablepeople,becausetheirfaithwas not anchored in the true God . The opposing Jews of Antioch, through whose influencethe apostleswere drivenfrom that district, united with certain Jews of Iconium , and followed upon the track of the apostles. The miracle wrought upon the cripple, and itseffectupon thosewho witnessedit,stirredup theirenvy,and ledthem togo tothesceneof theapostles' labor, and put theirfalseversionupon thework. They deniedthatGod had any partin it,and claimed that it was accomplishedthroughthe demons whom these men served . The same classhad formerlyaccusedthe Saviourof castingout devilsthroughthe power of theprinceof devils; theyhad denouncedhim as a deceiver; and they now visitedthe same unreasoningwrath upon hisapostles. By means offalsehoodstheyinspiredthepeopleof Lystra withthebitternessof spiritby whichtheywere themselvesactuated.
