48 LIFE OF PAUL . time,excuseinany degreetheweaknessof Mark indesertingthem and thework upon which they had entered, forthe easeand quietof home ; and he urged that one with so littlestamina was unfitfor the gospelministry, which required patience, self-denial,bravery, and faith, with a willingnessto sacrificeeven lifeifneed be. Barnabas ,on the other hand ,was inclinedto excuseMark ,who was hisnephew,becauseofhis inexperience. He feltanxiousthathe should not abandon the ministry,forhe saw in him qualifications for a useful laborer in the cause of Christ . Paul was afterward reconciledto Mark , and received him as a fellow- laborer. He also recommended him to the Colossians as one who was a " fellow-worker unto the kingdom of God ," and a personalcomfortto him,Paul. Again,not long priortohisown death,he spokeof Mark asprofitableto him in the ministry. After the departureof Mark , Paul and Barnabas visitedAntioch in Pisidia, and on the Sabbath went intothe synagogue, and sat down ; "and afterthereadingofthelaw and theprophets,the rulersof thesynagoguesentunto them, saying,Ye men and brethren,ifye haveany word of exhortationfor the people, say on. Being thus invitedto speak," Paul stood up ,and beckoning with hishand said,Men of Israel, and ye thatfearGod ,giveaudience." He thenproceededto give a historyof the manner in which the Lord had dealt with the Jews from the time oftheirdeliverancefrom Egyptianbondage,and how a Saviourhad beenpromisedof theseedof David . He then preached Jesus as the Saviour ofmen ,theMessiahofprophecy. When he had finished,and the Jews had left
