PAUL ENTERS UPON HIS MINISTRY . 39 braced the doctrine of Christ. Soon after the deathof Stephen,and theconsequentscattering of the believersthroughout Palestine, Samaria was greatly stirred. The Samaritans received the believerskindly,and manifesteda willingnessto hear concerningJesus,who ,in his first publiclabors,had preachedto them with great power . The animosityexistingbetweenthe Jews and Samaritansdecreased,and itcouldno longerbe saidthat theyhad no dealingwith each other. PhilipleftJerusalem,and preacheda risenRedeemer in Samaria. Many believedand receivedChristianbaptism. Philip'spreaching was marked with sogreatsuccess,and somany were gatheredintothe foldof Christ, that he finallysenttoJerusalemforhelp. The disciples now perceivedthe meaning of Christ,when he said, " Ye shall be witnessesunto me , both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria , and untotheuttermostpartof theearth." Followingtheseevents,the conversionof the Ethiopianeunuchunderthepreachingof Philip, thevisionof Peterat Joppa, and theoutpouring of theHoly Spiritupon Corneliusand hishousehold,servedtoconvincetheapostlesand leading brethrenat Jerusalem, that God had granted to the Gentilesrepentanceuntolife. Thus was theway preparingforPaul to enter upon his mission .
