Saul was a learned teacher in Israel; but, while inthemidstof hisblinderrorand prejudice, Christ reveals himself to him , and then placeshim in communication with his church, which isthe lightof the world. In thiscase Ananias representsChrist, and alsorepresents Christ'sministersupon earth,who are appointed to act in his stead. In Christ's stead, Ananias touchesthe eyesof Saul thattheymay receive sight. In Christ'sstead,he placeshishands upon him ,and, prayingin Christ'sname , Saul receivesthe Holy Ghost. All isdone in the name and by theauthorityof Christ; but thechurch is the channel of communication . CHAPTER III . PAUL ENTERS UPON HIS MINISTRY . PAUL was baptizedby Ananiasin theriverof Damascus. He was then strengthenedby food, and immediatelybegan to preachJesusto the believersinthecity,theveryoneswhom he had setoutfrom Jerusalemwith thepurposeof destroying. He alsotaughtinthesynagoguesthat Jesuswho had been put to death was indeed theSon ofGod. Hisargumentsfromprophecy were so conclusive, and his effortswere so attendedby the power of God ,that the opposing Jews were confounded and unable to answer him . Paul's rabbinical and Pharisaic education was now tobe usedtogood accountinpreachingthe gospel,and insustainingthecausehe had once usedeveryefforttodestroy.
