Holy men of old wereacknowledgedandhonoredofGod because theywere faithfulover a few things; and itis onlythosethatimprovewith the same fidelity theirgreatertrust,who willwiththem becounted profitableservants,and be crownedwith glory, honor, and immortality. Thisman offaithbeholdstheladderpresented in Jacob'svision,-the ladderwhich restedupon theearthand reachedtothehighestheavens,and upon which angelsof God were ascendingand descending. He knows that this ladder represents Christ, who has connected earth with Heaven , and finiteman with the infiniteGod . He hearsangelsand archangelsmagnifyingthat gloriousname .
