I have covetedno man's silver,or gold, or apparel." Some of the Ephesian brethren were wealthy; but Paul had never sought to receivepersonalbenefitfrom them. It was no partof hismessagetocallattentionto hisown wants . He declares, "These hands have ministeredunto my necessities, and to them that were with me ." Amid his arduous labors and extensivejourneysfor the cause of Christ, he was able,not onlyto supplyhisown wants,but tosparesomethingforthesupportof hisfellowlaborersand thereliefof theworthypoor. This was accomplishedonlyby unremittingdiligence and theclosesteconomy. Well might he point tohisown example,as he said, " I have showed you allthings, how that so laboringye ought tosupporttheweak ,and toremember thewords of the Lord Jesus,how he said,It ismore blessed to give than to receive." "And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down,and prayedwiththem all. And theyall wept sore, and fellon Paul'sneck, and kissed him,sorrowingmost of allfor thewords which he spake,thattheyshouldseehisfaceno more." By hisfidelitytothetruth,Paul inspiredintense hatred; but he alsoinspiredthe deepestand warmestaffection. Sadlythedisciplesfollowed him tothe ship,theirheartsfilledwith anxiety, both for his future and for their own . apostle'stearsflowedfreelyas he partedfrom thesebrethren,and after he had embarked there came tohim from the shorethe soundof weeping.
