These preciousjewelswillshinewithcontinuallyincreasinglusterthroughouteternity. Althoughdead, therighteousof allagestestify,by therecordof theirwords and deeds,to the truthof God . The names of the martyrs forChrist'ssake are immortalizedamong the angelsin Heaven ; and a brightreward awaitsthem when the Lifegiver shallcallthem from theirgraves. The flashinglightof thesepolishedstones,set forbeautyin Christ'stemple,has ever been exceedinglyannoyingtotheworld; fortheirbrightnessinthemidst ofsurroundingdarknessshows the strongcontrastbetween righteousnessand sin, the gold of truth and the dross of error and tradition. Thosewho refuseto obey the truththemselvesare unwillingthat othersshould obey it; for the course of the faithfulis a continualreprooftotheunbelievingand disobedient. Christhimself,the foundation and the crowning glory of God's temple, became " a rock of offenseto them that stumble at the word ." Yet that chief foundation stone, " disallowedindeed of men ," was " chosenof God and precious." Though rejectedby the Jewish builders, itbecame thehead of the corner. Christwas put todeath;but thework of buildingdidnotcease. He was honoredin Heaven and by thefaithful on earth as the true foundation .
