Becausethe Lord had not given him a new revelationfor that specialtime,thosewho were reallyseekinglight didnot castasidehismessageasonlya common letter. The Lord had shown him the difficulties and dangerswhich would arisein the churches, thatwhen theyshoulddevelop,he might know how to treat them . He was set for the defense of the church ; he was to watch for souls as one who must renderaccount to God ; and should he not takenoticeof thereportsconcerningtheirstate of anarchy and division? Most assuredly; and the reproof he sent them was written as much under the inspirationof the Spiritof God as were any of hisepistles.The apostlemade no mention of the false teacherswho were seeking to destroythe fruitof his labor . Because of the darkness and division inthechurch, he wiselyforboreto irritatethem by such references, for fear of turning some entirelyfromthetruth. Buthecalledtheattentionof the Corinthianstohisown work among them, saying: "Accordingto the grace of God which isgivenunto me ,as a wisemaster-builder, I have laidthe foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But letevery man take heedhow he buildeththereupon. For other foundationcan no man lay than that islaid, which isJesus Christ ." Paul,as a championofthefaith,did nothesitate to declare the character of his work . But he didnottherebyexalthimselfwhen heassertedthat he was a wise master-builder,who had laidthe foundationforanothertobuildupon. He stated,
