Had he forgottenhow , even before theadmiringshoutshad died away ,vengeance, swiftand terrible,had befallenthe vainglorious king? Somethingof allthisflittedacrossAgrippa'smemory; buthisvanitywas flatteredbythebrilliantscenebeforehim,and prideand selfimportance banished allnoblerthoughts. Paul again relatedthe familiarstoryof his conversionfrom thestubbornunbeliefof a rigid and bigoted Pharisee to faith in Jesus of Nazareth as the world's Redeemer . He described the heavenly visionthat filledhim with unspeakableterror,though afterwarditprovedto be a sourceof the greatestconsolation,-a revelationof divineglory,inthe midstof which sat enthronedHim whom hehad despisedandhated, whose followershe was even then seeking to destroy. Transformingmercy had made Paul a new man from that hour,a sincerepenitent and a fervent believer in Jesus. It was then thathe was calledto be an apostleof Christ, " by the willof God ." Paul had never seen Christ while he dwelt upon the earth. He had indeedheard of him and his works ,but he could not believe that the promisedMessiah,the Creatorof allworlds,the Giverofallblessings,would appearupon earth 11
