They weretransgressorsof hislaw, corruptinheart and in life. God and angelsabhorred theircourseof sin. But becausetheypossessed,in a limiteddegree, power and position,theywerethefavoritesoftheworld. Thatagedprisoner, standingchainedtohissoldierguard,presentednothingimposingorattractiveinhisdressor appearance,thattheworld shouldpay him homage. Yet thisman ,apparentlywithoutfriendsor wealthorposition,had an escortthatworldlingscouldnot see. Angels ofHeaven were his attendants. Had theglory ofone of thoseshiningmessengersflashedforth, thepomp and prideofroyaltywould have paled before it; king and courtierswould have been strickento the earth, as were the Roman guards atthesepulcherof Christ. All Heaven was interestedinthisone man ,now helda prisonerfor hisfaithin the Son of God . Says the beloved John : " The world knoweth us not, because it knew Him not." The world knows not Christ, neitherwillitknow thosewho exemplifyChrist. They aresonsofGod ,childrenoftheroyalfamily; yet theirprincelyclaimsarenotperceived by theworld. They may excitetheircuriosity, but they are not appreciatedor understood. They aretothem uninterestingand unenvied.FestushimselfpresentedPaul to theassembly, in thesewords: " King Agrippa, and allmen which areherepresentwithus,ye seethisman , about whom allthe multitude of the Jews have dealtwith me , both at Jerusalem and alsohere,
