Amid the constantstorm of opposition, the clamor of enemies, and the desertionof friends, the intrepidapostleat timesalmostlostheart. But he lookedback to Calvary, and with new ardorpressedon tospreadtheknowledgeof the Crucified. He was but treadingthe blood-stained path which Christhad troddenbeforehim. He soughtno dischargefrom the warfare tillhe shouldlay offhisarmor at the feetof hisRedeerner . Eighteencenturieshavepassedsincetheapostle restedfrom hislabors;yetthehistoryof histoils and sacrificesfor Christ'ssake are among the most precioustreasuresof the church. That historywas recordedby theHoly Spirit,thatthe followersof Christin every age might thereby be incitedtogreaterzealand faithfulnessinthe cause of their Master . How does this hero of faith tower above the self-indulgent, ease-lovingmen who are to-day crowding the ranks of the ministry. When subjectedtotheordinarydifficultiesand trialsof life,many feelthat theirlotishard. But what have they done or sufferedforthe causeof Christ? How does theirrecordappear when compared with thatof thisgreatapostle? What burden of soulhave theyfeltforthesalvationofsinners?
