Neal C. Wilson (1920–2010) was General Conference President from 1979 to 1990. Exhibit A — The 1974 Federal Court “Trash Heap” Confession

In this sworn federal filing, the church’s own representatives stated:

“Although it is true that there was a period in the life of the Seventh-day Adventist Church when the denomination took a distinctly anti-Roman Catholic viewpoint, and it is true that certain of the denomination’s publications — including the book ‘Great Controversy’ — have … criticized the papacy, that attitude on the Church’s part was nothing more than a manifestation of widespread anti-popery among conservative Protestant denominations in the early part of this century and the latter part of the last, and which has now been consigned to the historical trash heap so far as the Seventh-day Adventist Church is concerned.”

Why this is exposure-grade evidence: The Three Angels’ Messages — the Second Angel’s “Babylon is fallen” and the Third Angel’s warning against the beast and its image — are anti-popery messages by definition. To call that history “the historical trash heap” in a court of law is to formally discard the founding reason for the movement’s existence, under penalty of perjury, to win a legal point.

Exhibit B — The 1981 Adventist Review “Truly Catholic” Declaration

Seven years later, as sitting GC President, Wilson wrote in the church’s own official organ:

“There is another universal and truly Catholic organization, the Seventh-day Adventist Church.” — Adventist Review, March 5, 1981, Vol. 158, No. 10, p. 3

Why this is exposure-grade evidence: “Catholic” means universal. Rome claims to be the universal church. For the president of the body raised up to warn against Babylon to publicly claim the same universal-catholic identity — in print, in the denomination’s own paper — is a signed confession of the very merger the pioneers said could never happen.
