A guide to the actual printed pages
The 1893 Early Writings volume brings earlier works together. The 1858 Spiritual Gifts, Volume 1, is the standalone original Great Controversy. Each has its own printed pagination; PDF scan numbers also count covers and front matter.
The 1893 title page is dated 1893, while the next leaf records an 1882 entry under the Act of Congress. Read scans 9–10 to see both dates together. The preface begins at scan 13 and the contents at scan 16.
“The Open and Shut Door” appears on printed pages 34–37 in this 1893 copy (scans 44–47). The standard EGW online edition cites the chapter as Early Writings 42–45. The 1893 Supplement, p. 2 (scan 84), also explains the “false reformations” passage.
