The GC Trademarked "Adventist Lawyer"
In 1980, the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists applied to the United States Patent and Trademark Office to own the term "Adventist Lawyer." The trademark was granted in 1981 — Registration #1177185. A church that exists to preach the everlasting gospel needed to own a legal profession title. Jesus said woe to lawyers who take away the key of knowledge. The GC said: trademark it.

Why a Church Owns a Lawyer Title
A religious organization does not trademark profession names unless it is operating as a professional guild — not a church. The GC-SDA trademark of "Adventist Lawyer" reveals the corporate depth of the 1904 organization.
Professional Organization, Not Church
Religious bodies don't trademark professional titles. A church does not own the right to the title "Christian Attorney" or "Baptist Doctor." Trademarking "Adventist Lawyer" indicates a bar association function — institutional control of the legal profession within the corporate SDA family.
Brand Protection — Over Gospel
The GC-SDA has a Trademark Office. It aggressively protects the "Adventist" brand, including "Adventist Lawyer," "Adventist Health," "Adventist Education," and others. The corporate brand is more legally protected than the gospel it claims to preach.
Registered in 1981 — Same Year
The trademark was registered in 1981 — the same year GC President Neal C. Wilson publicly declared the SDA Church "truly a Catholic organization." The corporate machinery was fully operational while the Protestant identity was being publicly surrendered.
Silencing Independent SDA Lawyers
If the GC owns "Adventist Lawyer," an independent Adventist attorney who opposes the corporate structure cannot use the term to identify themselves without potential trademark infringement. The trademark is a tool of ecclesiastical control.
The EEOC Connection
In the same era (1974 EEOC v. Pacific Press), the GC deployed lawyers against its own employees. The corporate legal apparatus — now operating under the "Adventist Lawyer" brand — defends the corporation against those who challenge it from within.
Religious Liberty Department — Irony
The GC operates a Religious Liberty Department (Charles Longacre's legacy) — and also holds trademark control over the legal professional title associated with religious liberty law practice. The department that warns of Sunday law is owned by the corporation that trademarked the lawyer defending against it.
"Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered."— Luke 11:52, KJV — spoken by Jesus to those who used legal knowledge to close off the truth
"The time is coming when in their fraud and insolence men will reach a point that the Lord will not permit them to pass and He will then interpose to check the further advance of satanic agencies."— Ellen G. White, Testimonies, Vol. 9, p. 13
The Adventist Legal Network — Serving the Corporation
RLAS — Religious Liberty Advocacy & Legal Services
The GC-SDA maintains a legal network including the North American Division Office of General Counsel and various state conference attorneys. These legal professionals operate under the GC corporate umbrella — their primary obligation is to the 501(c)(3) corporation, not to individual members.
The same legal apparatus that defends "religious liberty" on Sunday law issues in the courts has also been deployed in:
— Defending the GC in employment discrimination cases (EEOC v. Pacific Press, 1974)
— Protecting the GC trademark portfolio (including "Adventist Lawyer")
— Enforcing member compliance with corporate governance
— Defending conference administrators against member lawsuits
— Blocking independent ministries from using the "Adventist" name
This is the legal arm of Babylon — dressed in the language of religious liberty.
